North Farm is the home  of a family business, run as a partnership between Robert Lawton, his wife Mary. The farm sits within an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty on the Marlborough Downs, close to the village of Aldbourne. The business is made up of dairy, arable and other non-farming enterprises. North Farm was purchased in 1969, Eastleaze Farm was added later to make a total of 405ha (1000 ac); other land farmed on various agreements brings the total to 1524 ha   (3762 ac.). The soil all overlies chalk and varies from middle chalk to flinty clay caps. Lying at approx 180m to 240m (600ft-800ft) above sea level some of the land is steep and all is undulating. The rainfall on average is 815mm (32").
